Battery Box Enclosure

What?

A battery box enclosure designed to to enclose a 36S8P-151.2V battery pack, 4 cooling fans, and required PCBs for the Midnight Sun Solar Rayce Car. Designed along side undergraduate Engineering student, Maggie Wang, as an observation into the feasability of a removable battery enclosure. The design features a releasable handle system to account for racing operations, safety release and module repairs. They were implemented to account for accessibility due to arobody and chassis sizing restraints.

How?

The prototype was synthesized in SOLIDWORKS taking into consideration sizing restraints of the chassis and modules, heavily focusing on ease of removability. to create the design, the box was first modelled, then the additional aluminum extrusions were modelled for support and extra strength based upon the box dimensions. Exrtrusions were then implemented with bolt tabs to secure the enclosure to the chassis in case of rollover. After each section was modelled, they were put together in an assembly, including the chassis. The design process required multiple revisions for changes in module design, material research and removability ideas.
